Postby eliascgr » Sun Nov 18, 2012 10:16 pm

Hello all! I am new to the forum and I'mrelatively new to parrots. Mynparents had many but it has been years since we've had a parrot at home. Now, my 4 year old and me wanted a pet but my wife is allergic to furry mammals, so the allergologist sugested a parrot. I remembered the bird I had as a kid and was lucky enough to find this awesome websites by Michale Sazhin and did some research before getting our Nanday from a local breeder. He's 5 months old, hand fed and I've been blesed and lucky to bring home a funny and very tame litttle parrot. He enjoys beign out of his cage siting on my showldet or hand and doesn't really stays on his perches. Kinda researching how to make him stay on his pearch for a while so he can ejoy more out cage time.
Hope to learn a lot and share what I've learned here and in practice.
Thanks!

PS: i found a nanday smily but don't know how to upload it!

Welcome to the forums. I'm so glad your allowing flight and finding ways to train your bird instead.

Conures are pretty playful birds so I would reccommend a playtree with loads of toys and foraging things on to hold his interest. After a while you wont need to put treat on the tree every time as he will learn to look anyway. This will help keep him busy. You can also try teaching him the stay command to use on his tree- but dont expect him to "stay" until you release the command like you would with a dog, you should only use it as encouragement to play on his tree.
