hi i recently got Jojo an african grey ive done alot of reading about them for a few years before i decided i was getting 1 ,
a friend of mine bought jojo about a month ago but found she was allergic to her/him we're not sure of the sex but my friend took pictures of her tail and face and was told jojo was male not that i mind either way , before my friend got her she was living with a couple and jojo was all for the husband does this mean she is a mans bird or will sheget used to me aswell when i go to her she tends to try and bite but after a few hours of me being in the room i can tickle her head and she will step on my arm i got her on the 15th of nov so i was taking that as a goodsign but now when she is on my arm or i tickle her head she started to make a noise sort of tweeting is the only way to discribe it and she seems like she is tryin to bring sumthing up at first i thought she was choking but she does it nearly everytime i touch her is this normal or should i take her to a vet ?
she does seem fine after a little bit but i thought id ask maybe someone elses bird does same kinda thing
thanks cindy

you are the 3rd home? your :gray: will have trust issues then but it seems like the 2 of you are getting on very well for only a few days. the choking could be regurgitating it's what they do for their mates you don't want to encourage any mating behavior if you have a female it could cause egg laying. male or female it could become very possesive over you and be aggressive to anyone who comes near you.but you still want to get your bird seen by a vet anyway just to sure its not sick.

the only other thing i was worried about was his cage but i'm replacing that as soon as i can

since i started off the careful about petting thing in another thread (regarding hormones, egglaying etcetera) there is one other thing that actually happens in alot of species when the hormones gets going, they stop molting... this is quite natural since when they lay eggs and get chicks they spend alot of time in their "nest" getting dirty, so once the chicks are out they start a molt. Now this isnt true for all species, but alot of them.

Other than that good luck with your Grey and I hope

Oh yeah another sidenote if its a hen, the calcium levels actually goes up slightly during the hormonal phases, and I think Grey_Moon were struggling with these values with her Grey (definitly not saying her grey is hormonal, but worth keeping in mind)
