hi Caitlin, I just saw your post here and wanted to welcome you to the forum. i just joined recently too, and appreciated your response to my intro post. Thanks for sharing your birdy-background - it sounds like you have a substantial amount of hands on experience with birds.

I know what you mean about wanting a "well rounded understanding" about parrots, and not just tips, quick fixes, etc. because one comes to realize that in the end there's no such thing. theres no substitute to doing the homework.

i'm sure you are super excited waiting for your Iliger's macaw to come home. you mentioned that the baby is "still living with her mommy and the breeder." does this mean that your Iliger's baby is still being reared by her actual bird parents, while being supervised by the breeder? this sounds like the best of all possible worlds for your parrot, as experts like Greg Glendell say that parent-raised chicks are far more emotionally stable and well-adjusted in the long run than exclusively hand raised chicks, and that its better for their immune systems, and they are less likely to become aggressive to humans later on. I'm really interested to know if your bird is being parent reared. also, does this breeder clip wings or keep them fully flighted?
