Hey guys I just wanted to stop in and introduce myself and the fids. I will try to keep it short. . . My bird experience started out when I saw an ad looking for volunteers at a local bird rescue. I had no experience with birds before that but I have always been an animal lover. The rescue I volunteered with had mostly the bigger guy so I guess I kinda got thrown straight into the deep end, especially since many of the birds had been abused in one way or another.
I currently have a female senegal named Mango and an unsexed gold capped conure named Sage. They are actually cage mates. They used to live separately in a divided double flight cage but they always played together while out of the cage so I finally took out the divider several months ago and they are very happy without a wall between them. Mango I actually adopted from the bird rescue. I met her at a fundraising event when she first came into the rescue and I think she decided she liked me right away because she spent that whole first day with me. She came home with me shortly after that. I actually got Sage as a baby from a local pet store. I was there getting food for Mango one day and the breeder brought him out to me. Honestly I guess he was sort of an impulse purchase on my part. When the breeder brought him out he went right to me and would even do headstands on my hand. I guess I was hooked from that second and bought another cage and took him home that day. I'll give you guys a more in depth introduction to both the fids later on if you guys want more info.
My SO and I also have a lovely little two year old boy that absolutely adores the birds. Of course he is too small to really handle them right now but he does love watching them and I let him pet them when I have them out (which is most of the time lol). Mango is a little jumpy still so I don't let him pet her as much unless I know I have complete control of both of them so I can make sure he doesn't get bit. Sage is awesome with him though. I'm sure that is partially because he was so well socialized as a baby and I have always had him around other people.
Anyway, that's a little about me and the crew. If you want to know anything else feel free to ask and I look forward to meeting you all.
