New to the forum and to owning a bird

Postby Charliesowner » Fri Dec 28, 2012 12:28 pm

Hello,
My name is Tammy and I have a baby Sun Conure. She was DNA Sexed so, yes, Charlie is a female. She was hatched in early September. This is my first bird ever. I had wanted to get a bird about 2 years ago and I started looking into them and researching and learning about them. I wanted to be informed. I found a local breeder and he was very good at explaining and suggesting what birds would be good for a first time owner. After meeting with the breeder on a couple of occassions we decided on the Sun Conure. Now I have a lot of questions. I am a very nervous first time owner. I am so excited to have found Michaels website and now this forum. I can't wait to "talk" to other bird owners. I hope you all are ready to answer a lot of questions and give me a lot of adivce. LOL

 Hello everyone. Today is a very sad day for me. My husband found my Charlie dead in her cage this morning. We do not know what happen to her. She was just 5 months on the 7th of Feb. We brought her home right before Thanksgiving. We had her to the vet and he said her heart and lungs were good, her poop looked good and she did not have any parasites. She was acting fine, eating good, playing, ect. Nothing out of the ordinary. My husband was going to bed last night and he stopped to talk to her and pet her like always. He made the comment she isn't moving to much when I pet her but she is opening and closing her eyes, I think she is dozing off. We didn't think any thing of it because that is the usual time she settles down to sleep all the time. When he came out this morning she was laying on the bottom of the cage in the corner. I am so heartbroken. My very first bird ever. I feel in love with her more than I could ever imagine and now she gone and it is killing me that I don't know why. R.I.P. my beautiful baby bird!

 i am so sorry this has happened. i would like to extend my heartfelt condolences to you on the loss of your bird.

i just wanted to mention that it might be helpful to contact your avian vet immediately and inform him/her what has happened. he/she may be able to offer you some insight or clues as to what might have been the possible cause of your birds death. they may have heard of or treated similar cases of sudden death/illness. you may also want to contact the breeder you got your bird from, to let him/her know what happened - they may have some insight or suggestions as well.

i know it must be very hard for you right now as you cope with this tragedy :( all the best to you and your family.

Really sorry for your loss. I agree with speaking to your vet and breeder as the last poster suggested.
