Hello from Montreal!

Postby hnhobu » Fri Jan 11, 2013 10:28 am

Hello Hello!

I'm just typing up a quick hello to give people an idea of who I am and what my flock looks like... Montreal style!

When it comes to birds I currently own one peach faced love bird named Cassette... but my 'flock' does not stop there as my lovie absolutely adores my two cats, Zygote (Siberian) and Dimitri (Domestic Longhair). There have been multiple occasion where Zygote and Cassette of cuddled up together in a box or on a shelf, and I feel quiet lucky that they all get along so well!

In the future I would like to adopt an Indian Ringneck, but for now I am more than content with what I have.

Welcome to the forums.

Please do not ever trust the cats even if they seem 100% trustworthy. Looking forward to hear more from you.

Oh, I don't! Whenever the cats are around Cassette I am always watching, and whenever we leave the apartment we typically put Cassette in our bedroom and shut the door.

Ah good that you keep them seperate. Sorry if that sounded more of a critism than a welcome but you would be amazed the number of people who think its all ok :)

Hi, and welcome!

oh dear.. this made me nervous reading it .... :?

a gentleman just yesterday introduced himself on the forum with a sad lovebird-cat story:

viewtopic.php?f=5&t=9729

supervision of cats and birds when they are together is sometimes not enough... if I were you i wouldnt let them interact at all, i wouldnt want my heart broken.. :?

i also commented in my reply to your other post regarding the hazards that cats can pose to birds, esp. one that is clipped like yours...

your lovie sounds like a very charming little guy and i'm really looking forward to hearing more about him, and your future ringneck, on the forum! :)

It did sound like criticism but it was good, healthy, friendly criticism and I thank you for it! Let me just state now that I am not a very hostile person, and unless you're blatantly disrespectful towards me, I will take whatever you say with a positive spin. I'm not one of those people who denies the truth in what someone says simply because it isn't convenient for me at the time.

You're both right in your statements, and perhaps I should limit the interaction of Cassette with my cats even further because you're right, I don't want to have to go through another heart break. I also don't want my little guys' life to end because of my stupid decision.

And also, although my lovie is clipped, he is still very capable of flying to and fro. He cannot fly long distances, but I have seen him fly across a room on multiple occasions simply because he wanted to. -I- myself haven't clipped him since we got him, so if there is a problem there it isn't my fault!

My husband was rambling off names, which all were based off of some sort of object (Piston, Sticky, Tape, etc. etc) and I took a liking to it a few days after when I heard the french pronunciation which is lighter (Cah-set vs. Cuh-set). We were also considering Milo (I was a fan, my husband was not) and Tony (after the lead singer of one of our favorite bands, No Fun At All) His original name was Mathieu, which I couldn't stand because I feel like I'm sneezing when I say it.

Lol, the bit about sneezing made me laugh. I think I need to get some glasses for the other bits though, that was hard work :D
