So-- Some background: I was born in Florida where I was lucky enough to grow up with beautiful birds all around and in the home. My first bird was an English parakeet named Todeo, next came a cockatiel named Nicky and a love bird named Peachy.
When I was thirteen my family moved to Canada and our birds stayed behind with family and friends. It was hard leaving them.
When I went to university I started working at a wildlife rehab Center. I grew very attached to a turkey Vulture named Wiloughby. Turkey vultures are very social and intelligent birds. I loved the owls and hawks I worked with, but the turkey vulture captured my heart. She showed me how charming and affectionate a bird can be.
I miss her to this day.
I continued a career working with wildlife and exotics. I've worked for various non profit organizations and several conservation areas. I love reptiles and birds. When I decided to become an author I made a significant career change and lost touch with the exotic world.
I currently work part time at a vet clinic and dog daycare. Word came to me that a Quaker parrot was orphaned when his owner died and so, I took him in.
It's a delight and privledge to have a bird in my life again. I am enjoying the challenge of building trust and a relationship. I hope to get another parrot some day. I love Indian Ringnecks and Illiger's Macaws. I love Spix Macaws too and am glad for recent comservation efforts. I ADORE cockatoos as well.
Thanks for reading and looking forward to meeting everyone!
Cheers,
Sarah & Tattery
