Hi Anna, welcome to the forum, to you and your bluefront! :amazon: :)

You have a young parent-raised bird that has not been handled by humans very much - guess what, you are in an excellent and ideal situation as far as amazon parrots go! parent raised amazons make the best pets!! what you have is a blank slate, healthy, emotionally balanced bird that is far less likely to exhibit behavioral problems than a handfed amazon. You and your bird have the potential to have an absolutely perfect life together... :)

Its great that youve joined this forum and that you are asking questions now, because you have the opportunity to do everything right from the beginning.

For now, I would advise you to do the following: handle your bird as little as possible until you have ordered, received, read, and fully understood Greg Glendell's "The BirdKeepers Guide to Amazon Parrots". heres the link:

http://www.amazon.com/Birdkeepers-Guide ... on+parrots

you can also look for other Glendell's books. they are all great. But the one i've linked above is an absolute necessity for you right now to own and continue to refer to in the future.

also please read as much as you can of Michael's (forum owner) blog. The link is on the left hand top corner of the page.

all the best, and let us know how things go! :)

hi, i just edited my post above a tad bit - I changed "dont handle your bird at all" to "handle as little as possible" until youve read the book. just use your best judgement to avoid handling him too much until youve read the GLendell book. giving treats through the cage bars is great for now, just like youre doing. you can also use the time now to shop around for the roomiest cage you can afford, organize his play areas, foraging centers, bird trees, etc... and ESPECIALLY: bird proof your house if you havent done so already. I see that you have an AFrican Grey as well, thats great, because your birds will have companionship. they will however need separate cages. the birds will have to gradually be introduced to each other in a systematic way, to ensure peace in the household. Michael has a good blog article on how to do this.

Its also great to see that you have both birds flighted - do please keep both flighted, because it will make everything easier for you and the bird, plus its better for their health and overall behavior.

Welcome to the forums :) Friend2parrots has given you some excellent resources to start off with. I haven't read the books referred to but Glendall does do alot of good work for parrot welfare, although most breeders will disagree lol.I've seen some pretty strong discussions between breeders and Mr Glendall himself on other forums in the past but all in the name of trying to educate the breeders.
I would certainly make a start on reading Michaels blog and reading through the forums.
