Hello from Australia :)

Postby Taz93 » Sat Feb 02, 2013 6:58 am

Hey everyone.
My names Lacey, im from Australia, i currently own 2 untamed budgies and a Major mitchells cockatoo who ive name Tazzie but i call him Taz for short. He's about 4 months old, handreared, ive only owned him for 1 week. He used to bite ALOT but has calmed down almost fully (still nippy every now and then), he loves his head scratches tho. I take him out of the cage everyday but he always ran away from me (outside of cage, he's really good inside) so ive been working with him giving him treats when he is good and he allowed me to give him a very small head scratch on the bed today which is a big improvement to what he was like 2 days ago so im pretty excited (i had my doubts) ive bought a clicker training kit which will be arriving in the mail soon so i can start target training. He's been getting better with step up training aswell. Ive tryed teaching him on a homemade training stand but he's always distracted by chewing the ends of the perch (any ideas on how to get his full attention?) so ive been training him on the bed or in the cage with no toys or anything near that will distract him.
Anyways i hope to gain more knowledge on here, ive read Michaels articles and blog and i must say they are amazing. :D
Hope the photo works.

Welcome to you and I must say Taz is a beautiful stunning bird :)

You will learn more on here but keep building on whatever research you have already done as no matter how much you know and how much you do for your birds there is always more to learn and do :)

Thanks, he's my little baby, getting much better each day, everytime i leave the room and come back he's at the end of the bed waiting for me, then he climbs up on my body, tho he is still a little bit iffy about me touching him (im working on it ;) ).
Yeah each day i learn something new about parrots and their behaviour etc, i plan on getting some books and dvd's to further my knowledge so i can become a good bird owner :)
