Hello from the Netherlands

Postby Pippin » Thu Feb 07, 2013 5:39 am

Hello everbody,

Though not a parrot owner yet, in 2-3 weeks I am when a 12-13 week old sennie comes to live with us. Us is me, my hubby and our girls of 13 and 10 yo. And cats, dogs and a horse. The girls both have a couple of budgies since last year, but the sennie will be my bird. I used to train my dogs and ride my horse, but because of my progressing ms dog training and riding can't be done on a regular base anymore.

However, from the moment I read the first websites about budgies and clicker training with birds, I have been thinking about a companion parrot. At first I fell for the male eclectus, but both of my hubby and my eldest girl saw that beak and were convinced that an animal with a huge beak like that, never could be a vegetarian. Hence the choice for a :senegal: .

The name will be Rammstein, as some kind of hommage to Einstein, the famous :gray:; Rammstein is also a german rock band, though that might be considered as an understatement... ;)

Even when Rammstein never says a word or does a trick, I'll never forget the look on his face when it first saw me...

Welcome to forums, and congratulations on your new buddy!

from what i have heard, senegals still have a mean bite despite their beak size, so be prepared for that. i wish you and your birdie many years!
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands.

Oh yes; I'm fully aware of that. But they don't need to know everything... ;)

J/k, I own a dog that could down a deer; methinks a human throat isn't much challenge for him. We all need trust when handling our pets, don't we? :)

When I get bitten, I prolly have done something wrong. However, it seems to me pure from the mechanics that a macaw can do more harm than a sennie. I'm sure a hyacinth can bite off someones finger. They might not do it, but they sure are capable of it...
