What new sections/changes would you like to see on the forum

Postby Michael » Thu Mar 11, 2010 2:31 pm

What new sections, additions, or alterations would you like to see to the parrot forum?

No guarantees that we can or will be able to meet your requests but we'd like to get some feedback here so we can do our best to improve the forum for the parrot owners. There's only so many things we can come up with on our own so we'd like to open up the discussion to all members and see what your input is. Please don't compare to "other forums" because we are not trying to be like others or compete with them. We try to make this forum the best place on the internet for parrot discussion so we're really not concerned with how others do it. We just want to know how we can make it better for the parrots and owners.

I think a sub forum of videos would be fun. I love to watch cool parrot videos on youtube and I imagine there are tons I haven't seen that others have. I'd like a specific place to post my favorites to share with everybody. Interesting pictures too and cool bird related stories maybe?

I've also noticed a lot of people asking where they can get birds. Maybe there could be a place to put breeders or pet stores that we personally know to be good? Kind of our own personal data base?

Ok, not bad ideas. However, I don't think these need an entire section as much as a long single thread similar to:

Share photos of your flock here
Seriously Idiotic Parrot Owners

So feel free to start threads to give people a place to post interesting videos they come across or review breeders. However, I do not think these two things merit entire sections on their own like Housing, Parrot Species, Taming/Training, etc. I'm looking to see if there are any unrepresented category ideas that merit an entire section. To evaluate what could be considered "merit," I'd say a good measure would be to see if you can come up with at least 10 separate threads that would belong in such a section and no other.

Okay. I see what you're after. I'll do some thinking on it though I think you've done a great job of covering everything.

not a new section but surfing the board would be heaps easier if there was a thread title highlight ( mouse over thingy, yes I am not very technical )

when I hover my mouse of a thread topic name it would be great if a little synopsis ( first few sentences) of thread showed up.

does that make more sense?

Ok, I see now. I'm not sure that it is possible with this forum system. Furthermore it would slow things down a bit. I guess the best thing we can do is to encourage forum members to make clear subject lines that describe the nature of the thread.

Is it possible to create an option where a member can can mark a read topic as unread? Sort of like e-mail where you can flag an e-mail for different meanings and mark them as unread again. It would be really useful for people that don't have a lot of time like myself to be able to mark a topic as something you want to reply to later, mark it as a personal favorite to refer back to quickly, or to mark it as unread when you don't have time to completely finish reading the thread. For me an option like that would be extremely helpful, if it's possible with this forum system, I really don't know how all of that stuff works ;)
