Still breeding at 70 years of age

Postby Pajarita » Tue Mar 09, 2021 10:47 am

Wisdom, the oldest albatross on record, is still going strong with her much younger mate and has produced another viable baby! What is most interesting about this is that, before they tagged her back in 1956 and saw how old she was getting, they thought that albatrosses only lived to 40 years of age! They later revised it to 50 but she is now at least 70 and going strong!

Yep, it is. And it goes to show how little we actually know about birds, doesn't it? I mean, to think that they only lived to about 40 years of age and then find out that they most likely last twice as long and that they are still breeding successfully at 70... WOW! That's a BIG mistake, no?
