Your dream bird?

Postby Natacha » Tue Oct 06, 2009 7:01 pm

What bird would you get if money was not an issue, nor was space.
What is your dream bird?

I would love to have a (female) Cape parrot.
Unfortunately, they are quite rare in aviculture and as such, are quite expensive.
I'll most likely have one one day. I've already found a breeder (and he'll hopefully will still be breeding them by the time I can get one) but I will wait to have more space and have more money saved towards buying a house before I can justify saving that much for one bird.

To me, maybe this:

Rose breasted cockatoos seem so playful, sweet, and engaging, and they are so beautiful. On the other hand, they're cockatoos.... Loud, more demanding, very destructive. :galah:

I *think* Rose-breasted cockatoos tend to be less neurotic or rather have less of the emotional issues other cockatoos can have, but don't quote me on that. This is based on stuff I read/heard and it might be wrong.

They are beautiful bird for sure.
Ever saw pictures of black palm cockatoos? (or ever saw one in real life?)

You said if money and space were not an issue. But certainly time is another big concern. Without time I don't think I could be a responsible to a really impressive but demanding bird.

I do think I'd like an African Grey at some point. They're intelligence and vocal capabilities are astounding. I like teaching tricks and training in general so I think a grey would be the pinnacle of that. I think owning a macaw could be something to aspire to but I don't think I could have both so the grey would come first.

If time/quantity of birds wasn't a factor (which of course it is), I'd be thrilled to have at least one of each poicephalus. I think they are all just so cute and have fantastic personalities (in general).

Oops knew I forgot something...Time is evidently an important part, I think I've talked about that in another thread (about getting multiple birds maybe??)
That's what I get for posting too fast ;)

I did see a black palm cockatoo once. Wow did it have a mighty price tag! But very beautiful, nonetheless.

I'm torn on what my next bird will be, thankfully I have a bit of time to think of it ;) .

If time, space, and money wasn't an issue I'd get a Galah cockatoo and a macaw. I'm leaning towards the harlequin, green wing, or camelot macaw.

Out of curiosity, why would you go for a hybrid macaw (harlequin or camelot)?

Is it the colours?

I'm not going to say anything pro or con hybrids, no rant, I'm just curious. Since hybrids aren't that available to start with.
