i would love to own a african grey parrot but they are close to $5000 in new zealand, we had one at the pet shop i volunteered at and they have a breeding pair at my local zoo so that does me fine at the moment i always go to the zoo and talk to sparky (the friendly one all day long) the keepers think im nuts haha

I think I might have my dream bird. He's my first, but my husband says he is, in fact, about as good as a Green Cheek Conure gets. A really smart big bird might be fun, a Grey or a Cockatoo, but Scooter is pretty smart for a little bird, he amazes me at how astute he is and how willing to learn, plus he just seems full of affection and playfulness. He tries hard to talk as well, but he's really hard to understand. Sometimes he sounds like a little old man muttering to himself in a corner.

My dream bird is one that challenges me and is a joy to just be around listening to. Hmm I've only had this little guy a few days and I've seemingly met my match. If I really had to go out on a limb about "the dream bird" for experience purposes I would say a Sun Conure. When I first began researching I was drawn to the bird but I figured if I thought the initial buy was expensive($500) I'd have a whole next thing coming when it came down to vet bills and just general upkeep. Nonetheless I've come to relish the bond that I'm growing with Jasper and I couldn't have picked a better parrot.

Is that a funky hybrid between a Sun Conure and Green Cheek Conure I've never heard of?

Alot of people don't know about the hybrid conures. The flock of The wild parrots of Telegraph hill also consists of some hybrid conures.
The SunDay hybrid is also 'quite' known.

Oh wow... Sorry! I must have been :? sleep typing. I meant Sun Conure. Thanks Mike. I actually didn't know there was a hybrid for the GCC and the Sun Conure.

There is, in fact, a Suncheek conure. It's just a relatively new mutation of the Green Cheek. I think it's technically called an American Yellow Dilute mutation or something? Anyway, they're really pretty. :D
