Percy died- so SAD!!!

Postby Eric&Rebecca » Sun Feb 24, 2013 11:44 am

This morning we woke up and Percy was lying dead at the bottom of his cage. From what the avian vet said and the position in which we found him Percy had fallen over or had a sudden cardiac episode. We are very very sad.

I have been crying all day I just can't believe he was taken from us so quickly. His bloods and labs were clean so we can only assume that's what it was which gives us some closure. Thanks to everyone who helped with Percy.

I will be taking some time to grieve and then we will consider perhaps getting another cockatiel as a buddy for Edmund. I feel bad more for him than for myself.

RIP Percy ;-(

I am so sorry, you have my condolences. He was such a beautiful bird. I know you did everything you could though, you have been the best parronts possible.

Omg, I absolutely can't can't can't believe it. You were doing so very well with him and I'm gutted for you, especially with how diligent you were.
Just remember you did everything you could.

Oh my goodness - I am so sorry!!! - I'm literally crying right now. I've come to really be fond of him. I feel like I've gotten to know him through all your posts.

Its so hard to imagine how he could be gone so young, after seeming so cheerful and healthy, chirping to music, all the sweet things he does that you have shared with us in your posts. I'm really so sorry this has happened. My deepest condolences to you.

I agree with cml and marie, you guys have really been the absolute best parronts he could have ever hoped for. RIP little Percy

I have been enjoying reading about all the progress you were making with Percy, how devastating!

I am so sorry for you and your partner and Percy! That is very sad news indeed. :-( My condolences. He had a wonderful life with you and you were taking such good care of him. I am very, very sorry.

My condolences to you! That is heart breaking. Such a young parrot... I'm so sorry to hear, what a tragedy.... It's so shocking to think about such an unexpected death :(

I know. The breeder has offered us to come back and choose another cockatiel. He paid our vet bills too for the post mortem. He was as upset as we were, he has been breeding for 20 years.

Its good to hear the breeder cares so much. Keep strong and hopefully the results will tell you what happened to poor percy.

They found damage to his neck so he did either fall or have a sudden cardiac arrest.... It seems he was just fragile from the start. It was something that would have happened no matter what and its nothing anyone could have predicted.

Edmund is still fine and they were quarantined so even if Percy did have something underlying there's a much less chance he will get it. We deep cleaned everywhere today including his cage. I am just so sad... I am scared that I will wake up and the same thing has happened to Edmund :-/

Hmmm sounds like possible night fright? I'm sure your 'tiel will be just fine though but can understand your stress about it.
