Well the vets no longer board birds. I am disappointed, but on the other hand maybe it is for the best. I have heard great things about their bird vet, but I was concerned he'd be in cages as would cats and small dogs etc...,
I have made up my mind that he should be in his own cage in his own home. We will have to get a pet sitter. I am concerned about him not getting out of the cage. When he sees me coming to give him more food etc... he makes his way to the door asap.
We also have two old cats. One is 19 years and the other is a mystery, we've had her for about 14 years and she acts older. I'd be afraid Disney would get out of the cage and the person couldn't get him back in. Or if Disney bit their finger and they shook him off. So many things to go wrong.
My only other option is a pet store that boards birds. They have a Macaw and a rare amazon that live in the store. But again my fears are the same what if Disney gets out? He is flighted and could potentially fly out. So He will be staying in his own home. I'll just have to try and find the right person to care for our home pets.
Years ago we had a woman who said she was a pet sitter. She was supposed to feed the cats in the morning, well we came home a day early and the cats had not been fed. I could see her walking up the driveway about 5:30 pm, cocking her head looking in the window to see if we were home. We were, and I didn't want to use her again, but my husband didn't care. We did use her one more time but that was it.
It's amazing how fast this trip is coming on us, so we need to get it figured out.
