Fraud call about my bird

Postby GreenWing » Tue Nov 12, 2013 5:24 pm

Happened all of ten minutes ago, a private number called and I didn't pick up and they left me a message in a taunting voice, saying: "We've got your bird. Will you ever see it alive again? No." And hung up.

I'm terribly upset and sobbing, it has taken me months to try to heal from this experience, and now it's like someone just ripped open wounds that were trying to heal. Why would someone do this? They didn't mention a ransom, and it's probably some prank, but it is just cruel. :(

Someone stole your bird? Holy crap that is horrible and I'm so sorry. CALL THE POLICE. They can trace the number and find where the person lives that called. Don't panic but you need to get the police evolved immediately. I'm sure that they still have your bird alive, I doubt anyone would kill a parrot for no reason - they will probably try to sell it on Craigslist.com or something. Go and look for ads selling your bird online near you. Also listen to the voicemail closely and think about who it might be. It is probably someone you know, that might be angry at you for something. I already know he can't be a very smart person so I'm sure it won't be too difficult to track him down. Very very good luck to you and your beloved feathered friend.

Edit: Just read your forum post that tiki flew away. Still, bring the voice recording to the police and try to track this person down.

That is so extremely cruel and and uncalled for. Is there anywhere that someone could have gotten your number? Was it on any fliers or forums?

Thank you to you both. I really don't think they have Tiki - as hnhobu mentions, my fliers are still posted around town and I think it was a sick f&%$ calling to be an assh^%e. It's been very hard and I miss Tiki everyday, so this felt like a knife through my heart. Even though this was surely a prank, it did a number on me.

The majority of people are good, but there are some bad seeds out there.

For a moment there, reading your title, I got extremely excited. Sorry to hear it turned out that way. Sounds like some kind of dimwit that literally has absolutely nothing valuable to do.

I'm sorry! :( And you're right -- let me change the title.

And seriously, if I knew how to share the recording of the call, I would... it is absolutely appalling that someone would do that. :(

I would still report it to the police anyway even in the likely event it is just a cruel prank. The police will still have to investigate it and that might just teach the idiots a lesson.
