Emmi went to Preschool today! It was completely exciting for her and she danced as each of the three groups of kids came into the room. They made musical shakers and she danced to the music they made. She even tried to sing along because she was so happy to hear them sing her name. She kept flying down to the floor where they were sitting and wanted to go see the kids up close.

Emmi has been big on saying "Thank-you" so she said it loud and clear. The kids tried some of the fruit she eats. She demanded to eat with them by trying to take the cups out of my hand. We went over the different parts of her body, the cool facts about her body, and how a bird's family unit is almost like ours. They loved seeing her poop of course and pointed out a little bit if bird poop on the playground after. Lol And the dramatic play I saw was awesome! "Look at my wick feather Teacher Kim!" (piece of paper taped on the back of a child's pants) So cool!

I messed up though. I told them SHE was from a rain forest instead of saying, "Birds LIKE her come from the rain forest." They wondered why I took her out of the forest. Oops! Lol

I let the kids pet the tip of her tail instead of holding her. She's been biting lately when we hit one of her many pin feathers the wrong way (I don't blame her!) and I didn't want an accident. She happily let them touch her tail as she ate some fruit.

But it was a great learning experience for the kids and Emmi too. We have lovely pictures they drew of her. My co-teacher is making a book for me, how nice! Emmi's reaction was just so joyful and my husband said she was so happy and dancing for the rest of the day.

I really thought that she might be shy with how close she was to so many kids. It was so cute to see her low on her perch with her wings flicking slightly in excitement as she watched all the children sitting in front of her. When it was over, she refused to go back into her cage. NOT NORMAL WHEN WE ARE OUT! She goes in willingly always. She was near the window in her cage waiting to be picked up by my husband, watching the kids eat lunch outside. She wanted to get to them, dancing the whole time. She just never got enough of being around them and their energy. How amazing for her to feel so comfortable and happy...like a puppy. That's the best way to describe it.

Here's a picture of her at the school. She wanted to climb and chew the brick wall so it was hard to get her to turn around or stay on her perch. Lol

No one (like the parents)asked me where to get a bird like Emmi, or how much she was, or how much she costs. The kids never said they wanted a bird like Emmi. But I got asked to let her visit again. I was told by many that they loved her and she was beautiful. They saw her as an individual...a friend and not something to own or something that can be replicated. I love how we teach at our school! :)
