After many years of having birds and using a non toxic cleaner for the cages etc, my husband recently read that vinegar and water is supposed to work well. When I was a kid my mom always used it for cleaning as well, windows etc so what the heck gave it a try. It was the best I've ever used it all just melted off, the other things worked but nothing like just plain old vinegar and water :)

Yes, white vinegar is quite effective. I still use soap and hot water with a little squirt of bleach for the cages, though...

I use washing up liquid and the hottest water I can stand for the cages, I'll disinfect the cages approx. once a month with F10 - daily if they are sick or I suspect the might be sick.
