parrot treats

Postby Christine Pritchatt » Thu Jul 03, 2014 10:46 am

An idea for parrot owners : I have an African Grey Congo parrot who loves baby crisps. Supermarkets stock a brand called Kiddlylicious , Loki loves the apple crisps, tomato noughts and crosses and sweetcorn flavoured crocodile shaped puffs! :gray:

Toys for babies, especially linking ring teethers from your local 99p shop or Poundland give Loki hours of fun. :gray: :gray:

The toy sounds ok and I have done similar here in my neck of the woods. The treats ,however, do not strike me as being a wise choice for Loki. They sound like prepackaged crap that is full of fat, sugar and/ or salt as well as all manner od chemical preservatives. If that is true then they would never pass my lips nor my birds beak. Thank You for the tips !

Please be careful feeding your bird crisps! I heard a story a year ago about a guy who killed his Macaw by sharing a packet of crisps with it. The bird's body couldn't take the high salt content and it died before the man could get it to a vet. Please keep your bird away from crisps and other human treats. The best way to stop your parrot being addicted to potentially lethal human treats is to never give it to them in the first place.

Currently my bird's favourite treat is dried banana slices dipped in water (the water helps the flavour come out), I started them off by dipping the banana slices in water and then handing it to them. My birds love it and will now take a banana from their dish, walk over to their water bowl and happily perch at the bowl for a while, dipping their banana slices like biscuits in tea, :).

The treats mentioned have no fat or salt, they are meant for toddlers. The only problem is that they are not organic and apples need to be as they are, by far, the dirtiest fruit in terms of chemicals (over 40 of them).

Oops ! My bad I didn't know that these treats were fat and salt free, all of my kids have feathers or fur and claws.
