Thank you Pajarita and others for your thoughtful responses.
This is GMV mom again. Our situation may not have been portrayed quite adequately. I won't belabor the details, but please ( for the sake of the birds) know that we do not have a "pollyanna" type ideal that will cause us to ignore Lilly's ( or Delight's or Bliss's) needs as a wild creature. We all are carefully observing and learning from all sources.
Sometime you have to take what life presents with an open mind, and Lilly really needed a home. we also live in a small town, and were their only reasonable choice.
I hope that if GMV has a question for the forum again, that some of the information can be presented in a less confrontational manner for our younger peers. ( not meant for you Pajarita, mainly Wolf although I mean no offense to him)

In the end, we all have in common that we love birds ( and all other creatures as well)
thanks again

I do not believe that I was confrontational, at least until he chose to attack me. I have no problem with him disagreeing with any thing that I say, but that does not require personal attacks.
I understand what you are saying and will do my best to abide with your request as I am here to try to help these birds ,not to offend people.

just because i was informed by people you may disagree with, does not mean i am uninformed.
almost every parrot care article is opinion-based, like child care articles.
we are not against flight but sadly, we cannot build everything at once. we can only build one thing at a time, which is only expected out of a group of 4 homo sapiens. once we have enough build we will let delight fly.
now to end this. thank you all for your responses, but in the end, this was not a scenario was not one that could be solved boy anyone that has not met lily. thank you all for trying to help.

(does anyone know how to delete this article?)

I am afraid that you have been misinformed (maybe by the same people who disagree with us -LOL). Neither child care nor bird husbandry is a matter of personal opinion or, at least, it should not be. There are laws that regulate how we raise our kids, what we are obliged to do, what we are obliged not to do, what is a good diet and what is not, etc. With birds, you have no written legal guidelines so you have to study the species physiological and emotional needs and emulate their life in the wild as close as possible. The only difference is that children are protected by law while animals are not because they are property, same as a table or a chair. But their needs are not a matter of opinion, they are facts.

I agree with taking life events with an open mind but there has to be a certain degree of caution and foresight when dealing with potentially dangerous and powerful animals.

And, for the record, Wolf was not confrontational. If you read the postings you will see that he simply stated what was best for the bird - and he was absolutely right about it because penalizing a little bird by handicapping him for an entire year due to our lack of proper infrastructure, shortcomings, lack of foresight, ignorance or whatever the reason might be that created the problem in the first place is not what is best for the bird and a slippery slope when it comes to its wellbeing. Now, I am a mother of seven and a grandmother of eleven so I well know how young people react to what they perceive as a personal attack even when it's meant as constructive criticism but this is a bird site, not a people's site and, most certainly, not a children or young people's site so, although we don't dislike people and do try our very best not to hurt anybody's feelings, the whole purpose of the site is to share knowledge and learn from one another so we can all improve our birds lives, and we can't do that if we cannot say that something was the wrong decision and explain why we feel that way.

But don't worry about us not answering to the best of our ability any question or doubt your child might have. Like I said, we are here for the birds and that means all birds.

Yes, I know how to delete this whole article, but I will not do so. There is as much to be learned by this as by all of the pretty ones, and that is what this place is about, learning. We all learn from our mistakes as well as by when we are right and sometimes we learn more. We are also not trying to sugar coat the truth or appease anyone's ego and especially not mine. If I am wrong or make a mistake here then I do so for the world to see and I am a big boy and I can take be called to task for what I say and do.
No, This needs to stand as there are things here that are important to everyone that has birds.
Thank you.
