Some ramblings

Postby Tman007 » Thu Jul 31, 2014 8:24 pm

Well I have some thoughts I would like to get out there so I figured I would just put them here instend of trying to figure out what area to put what. So bare with me on this please. First off I saw a video on how to make a perch on youtube. Now I like to use my hands and make things. So I thought it would be fun. So I made a square perch.

I used sisal rope. Well that was the wrong thing to do. Both my parrots get their feet stuck in the rope witch makes it hard for them to move around. also they like to grab the threds that stick out, witch can't be good if they eat them. So I have to redo the perches. So I tell you this be careful using Sisal rope. Also to those of you that are tihking of getting a freind for your parrot. Think twice I have two parrots. Amos and Andy I got them because I couldn't make up my mind witch one I wanted. I am Glad I did, they are just to much fun. But I have to tell you when They are near each other, I found out the hard way They really don't care for each other.

This was just before the got into it. I had to put my hand in between them to stop them. I am not saying don't get another parrot. I am just saying if you get one as a freind for your parrot, they just might not get along. You have to remember that you are there freind. and they each will want to have their time with you. And each one will feel that time is now. LOL Andy is really starting to fly and he will fly over to me if I am holding Amos. So I have to be care full to watch out. So now when I start to target train them I do It one at a time. (I use to put both on the perch and target one then the other by using their names. like Amos target, Andy target.) So now one is in his cage while I work with the other. Target training is going great. I am amased at how well it works. They both will go over and reach to touch the stick. As for diet what to feed your parrot, we have pellet feeders and non pellet feeders on this forum, I say do your reseach, figure out what works for you. read what the long tiome parrot owners say. One thing just make sure you don,t feed the wrong food. There is a great thread on here I can't remember were, I think in the diet section. That has the list of good and bad things for your parrot that is great. One more thing clip or not to clip. This is a big one, you really need to do major reseach on this you reaslly need to go over in your mind what is best for the parrot. Just think about these few things.
1) clipping will not tame your parrot. ( it just makes it harder for them to leave) clipped or not you working with your parrot tames them.
2) Clipping makes it harder for them to land when they fly off. (and they will try and fly even if they are clipped)
3) There is no better feeling then to have your parrot fly over to you because they want to be with you. ( It means that what you are doing is working).

No need to apologize, it was a very good posting! And yes, we all make mistakes, the important thing is to learn from them.
