very true. BLiss is the happiest bird i have ever seen. his impairment might make him who he is, so it may be a blessing. when i first got bliss, i did not think he was mutated.

With the GCCs that are on the market today you pretty much have to figure that whatever you get is a mutation.
Here is a link that will give you a basic understanding of how color mutations are produced.

I hope that this will help you some.

But, isn't Bliss a pearl? Because, if she is (pearls are almost always females), the mutation is not inbred. Of course, any bird can be inbred, even 'normals', but, usually, it's the lutinos, cinnamon lutinos and albinos that are, not the pearls.

Correct me if I am wrong, please, but it seems to me that she wasn't tested for metal poisoning (you never get the results during your visit, you have to wait for them) and that's the number one cause of this type of neurological problem. Did the vet even do blood work at all?

the vet says that if he had metal poisoning, he would be dead by now. he had this issue for 5 months, and metal poisoning kills birds within days. the vet does not believe in bloodwork if she finds nothing wrong on the physical exam

LOL- No, I don't. Nobody (and this is not my opinion, all avian vets I've dealt with have told me the same thing) can tell if a bird is healthy by just looking at it. It's impossible. Even blood work has limitations (normal chem panels will not give you abnormal liver enzyme values until the liver is working at under 25% - and they will show none with certain types of cancer) and that's why you need three different ones and an XRay at the very least. And it's not true that birds die within days from metal poisoning. As a matter of fact, they never do, it always takes longer. That vet doesn't sound like a certified avian vet, is she?
