Parrot on keyboard

Postby Michael » Wed Oct 07, 2009 6:17 pm

Are your parrots obsessed with keyboards? I can't keep Kili off my keyboard when I'm typing. She's trying to type along with me and bite off the keys. The problem is that she is getting territorial about the keyboard and starts nipping my fingers if I get in her way. Also I'm afraid she might break they keyboard. Any advice?

Piper sometimes wants to go on the desktop's keyboard, but this one is beneath the actual table on which sits the monitor and it's hard for her to squeeze in there.

Joey is totally obsessed with them. He has broken off some of the keys of my boyfriend's laptop's keyboard. He sometimes tries to go for the desktop's keyboard but through the glass of the table. Of course this does not work and it's rather funny to watch. I try not laughing too loud because I don't want him to encourage to go for it though.

We have still yet to find a way to totally discourage his obsession though...

These obsessions seem impossible to discourage. It seems that when a parrot wants something, they get it. And anything we try to do to discourage it only encourages it more!!!! It's like they love doing things to piss us off!

Forbidden toys are much more attractive ;)

I sometimes make toys that I want him to play with "forbidden"...and it works. He'll go after those instead of other things I'd rather he not touched, if only for a while.

Noodle loves my laptop keys. He can pluck of a key before you can stop him.
Luckly they snap back on.
If I'm doing something that doesn't require the keyboard much I put a piece of fleece over
the keyboard. That was he can walk on it but can't get at the keys.
Otherwise, he tries to "help" me type and I end up placing him back on his house.

Matisse loves getting on my keyboard. Tipsy doesn't seem all that interested in it; he'd rather go after whatever food/drink I have on the side table, or be a traitor and waddle over to my dad. Image

Here's a video of Matisse on my laptop, trying to eat my keyboard. Image Little warning, though: I say a little cuss word. Image

And while I'm at it, have another video of Tipsy attacking the thing he hates most in the world! Image

Luckily keyboards are fairly easy to replace. Parrots can destroy other things that aren't so easy to replace. :?

Yeah, except my keyboard is kind of expensive. It's a special wireless keyboard/mouse set.

Kili got on it today and broke off the caps lock key but luckily I was able to get it back in! :?
