parrot people

Postby Tman007 » Tue Aug 19, 2014 11:00 am

I am trying to find a good Subject line. But here is my thought, is your partner into parrots as much as you are.? Also so if not just how much, and does it cause any problems? I am single right now so when I do find someone I would like it to be someone who really enjoys parrots, and other animals. If there was a problem would you get rid of your parrot for your partner or would the partner go? Just thinking out loud. I myself have not dated someone because right after we started to go out she wanted me to get rid of my cat, I asked her to close the door on her way out. LOL :gcc: :jenday:

Love me, love my dog, right? I can go along with that.

My husband likes birds in general, and loves Corsair. He also loved the budgies we had over the years. Or else he loves me enough to fake it. Fortunately, Corsair likes him as well. She'll fly to him when I am doing something boring like watching TV, but will seldom accept head scritches from him. He named her Corsair after a fighter plane that was supposedly known as "Whistling Death" because they told us she wouldn't ever talk.

My wife tricked me into getting a parrot, now we have two ;-). Jokes aside, we are both parrot people.

My husband adores the canaries but, although he is kind to the parrots, he is afraid of them and dislikes the fact that they are so destructive. But I already had dogs, cats and birds by the time he met me and I made it quite clear from the very beginning that there would always be multiple animals in my life so although he might complain every now and then, he would never suggest I get rid of any of them.

I have been out of the loop for a while and just found this thread.

If your partner does not like your kids then you have the wrong partner.

For me it's more of a problem of my bird liking my boyfriend then him liking her. He isn't a parrot person but he tries for my sake. Ideally I'd love to date someone that is as into birds as I am but my boyfriend is pretty great so I can't complain. I just wish my bratty green cheek liked him as much as I do... :gcc:

I would not call my husband a bird person. He allows me to have them, and he will spend time with them. I think he likes them more than he will admit, but he would not have them if it were not for me. I am ok with that. He was not allowed to have pets of any kind when he was growing up and so he doesn't understand the love for animals I have as I grew up with pets constantly in my life. He will come into the room to talk to me and he always has to scratch Drakes head before he leaves the room again, and on the days I am gone longer for clinical he lets Drake out of his home for some play time on his stand before I get home.

Natalie, your husband is a closet bird lover. Or he would never choose a bird but if you love Drake, he loves him.

I was raised that animals belong outside. My father would never believe what is in my house now.
Because my mother and I had been together again for 20 years she could see the personalities and became attached to them. All of them.

I was so indifferent to birds until I met my wife's budgie. Now I suspect I'm more given to them than she is.

I'd say it's pretty important for a partner to be more than just accepting. birds can't just fit into people's lives in a "normal" way like a mammal for whom we share instincts or a tank pet that is relegated to a very specific space. you know this as a bird person, but often it can go overlooked since it's easy to forget many people just don't know what it's like to own them. They judge it to be no different than the dog they had growing up or may even think it's not allowed out of the cage.
