And birdy bread is bread, preferably made with whole grain flour and whatever goodies you want to put in-fruits, veggies, crushed pellets, etc. You can make it with yeast or baking powder, but Pajarita says to avoid the aluminum-based baking powders.

I used the whole wheat bread recipe from my bread machine, with olive oil instead of salad oil, canned pumpkin instead some of the water, salt as written (salt keeps the yeast from going crazy), and some honey for flavor. It didn't rise even as much as whole wheat normally does, and I thought it tasted pretty bad, but Corsair loved it.

No, pellets did not cause her health problem. She decided to eat one of my cat's blood pressure pills while I was cutting some for his daily dosage. Then of course she objected to taking the medication HER vet sent--she only wanted cat meds. (I dose the cat after Corsair goes to bed now.) Anyway, it messed up her digestive system for almost 2 weeks so I thought substituting seeds for dry pellets might be easier on her.

my parrot's beak was peeling when I first got him. He was on a seed diet. Then I switched to Dr D's that I order from Florida. His beak is so healthy looking now... of course he also has perches including daily using the shower perch to rub his beak on.

The Vet told me that Rambo's beak and dry feet are from winter heating. He told me to rub red palm oil on them. We are also in progress to change all the birds diets. Some are happy (Rambo and Myrtle) but the new cockatiels are very very slowly starting to accept it. Lola was also on an all seed diet

Pajarita and Wolf have been posting into the thread DIET. Oh, you also need to read up on LIGHTING.

 Welcome to the P.P.P. Club! (Perplexed Parrots Parents)

Every bird keeper is on the same boat, Liz, only the members of the PPP Club are like Socrates ("I only know that I know nothing") while the others are, without realizing it, followers of Tomas Grey ("Where ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise")...
