sing-off..

Postby sgtpepper » Wed Nov 19, 2014 5:03 pm

Dino and Zaura sing quite a lot even during the day! They still haven't stopped screaming, i guess some days are just better thanthe others and we kind of got used to it. Most of the time we can redirect them for a few minutes if we are calling their names or making sounds.
Aaanyway, the reason i wrote is that they sometimes make these...weird noises and gestures.
You can hear/see them in the video below. I apologize for the background music, but in the end this was the most explicit recording i have of this kind of behaviour:)

Is it "normal"?

I do not see anything at all that I would consider to be unusual with either the sounds or the actions of your birds. Thank you for sharing this video with us.
I see several rope type perches and only one wooden one in the cage and it is smooth like a dowel. May I suggest that you cut scallops all over and around the dowel and find some nice fir branches for additional perches for them and reduce the number of rope perches. The natural wood as well as the dowel once it is altered are better for their feet than either the rope perches or the smooth dowel as the pressure on the bottoms of their feet will not always be in the same places and they will be better for the birds to chew on and this will help with keeping their toenails and beaks properly groomed without you needing to have them trimmed. Also having the natural wood perches to chew on will help to alleviate some boredom in the birds.

What it appears like to me is that Dino wants to have a mating session and Zaura is telling him no, not now. Dino then repeats his request, more firmly and just as firmly gets told by Zaura that it just isn't a happening thing.
So this being what it appears like to me, again I do not see anything that is unusual or abnormal in this exchange. I don't think that it is fine as it is not the appropriate time of the years for this, and Dino appears to be mildly frustrated by this chain of events. With the previous lifestyle that these birds had this seems to me to be an expected event and is therefore normal for the current situation.
Sorry, but sometimes, I forget that I should elaborate on things such as this a bit more than I sometimes do. I will do better. As for the perches, I am glad that this has already been done. I had thought that you had taken care of this a while back, so this video is not a new one. Again thank you for sharing and I hope that this reply will be more helpful than my shorter previous version of it.

Awwww, they are cooing to each other. It's actually wonderful that they love each other and get along so well (have I mentioned lately how much I envy you for having a bonded pair of grays?).
