You Smell So ...

Postby Wolf » Sat Dec 06, 2014 7:35 pm

While researching a totally different subject entirely, this article caught my attention, so I thought that I would share it with you.

This is interesting! My psych teacher in high school mentioned this to us regarding humans, telling us that the scent of those genetically closely related to us will smell bad to us.

I wonder what differences there are between captive bred and wild birds when it comes to this.

There would be no difference between captive-bred or wild ones because it's genetic. But, it's important to point out that gulls have a much acuter sense of smell than parrots -all flesh eating birds do.

Oh, yes, it is! I had already seen this one as well as another two or so of them on the avian sense of smell because, although we say that parrots don't have a highly developed sense of smell (it's more or less like ours), in reality, we don't know for sure because they 'sense' smell differently than we do.

So how does Rambo know when we have Chinese food who has the broccoli?
How does he smell French fries in the living room when he is in the sunroom?

If you can smell it, they can too. Their sense of smell is, roughly speaking, as developed (or underdeveloped) as ours.
