Charlie (SunConure) needs a home

Postby patti » Sun Dec 14, 2014 6:47 pm

Poor charlie needs a home. He is a 9 or 10 month old Sun Conure, sex unknown, currently languishing in my neighborhood pet store. Please help me find a permanent or foster home for charlie in the los angeles area. Hopefully I can get the funds to purchase him, but i can't give him a permanent home unless I move to a different apartment. I want to try and save him.

The store rules do not permit him to be out of his cage while the store is open. He has no visible signs of illness (they certify he is vaccinated/tested) but is showing signs of extreme stress caused by his isolation and confinement. He picks at his feathers and does not appear to preen himself at all. He spends a lot of time licking and "feeding" the bars of his cage. I tried to upload a picture of him doing this, but the system is not allowing me to attach anything. I am wondering if this is a stress behavior caused by his isolation. They let me spend time holding him and on my arm he instantly turned into a completely different bird. He is very very sweet.

Wow, I was literally in the middle of writing this post to advertise and one of the rescuers in the area called to say that she would take him as a foster. But Charlie will still need a permanent home, to someone who knows birds and is willing to put in the time to rehabilitate him.

It is a step in the right direction for him. It is so-o-o cool of you to do this for him. Thanks so very much. I am in NC so I can't be much of a help.

So sorry to hear about your misfortune and I hope you are all better. As to Charlie, most likely, you had a BIG part in his finally finding a home. I am sure that your talking to the pet store management about reducing his price and commenting on how long he had been there made them realize that they needed to do something about it and, when these people showed up asking about him, they gave them the new price which clinched the deal. I, like you, hope the new home is patient and knowledgeable and heal him instead of making things worse.

I think it is time to start making cards. Vista Print has good deals.

The cards could be:

thanks, i think you are right. i let them know i was going to keep showing up and asking to play with him until i could take him home, and they got more and more bumbling and uncomfortable with each visit. i can be very persistent.
