Tiger Parrot

Postby Wolf » Sat Feb 21, 2015 12:30 pm

For a long time the Tiger parrot was thought to be related to the rosellas of Australia and/ or to another branch of African and Asian parrots, but a new study says that they actually occupy their own branch of the Australian evolutionary tree of life.

I understand how you feel, Liz, but I am pretty certain that it is not because of the dead parrots. Those parrots are museum pieces and are preserved so that humans can study these parrots without having to kill as many. Our methods of studying animals is crude and barbaric at best and needs drastic improvements.

Hmmmm, not museum pieces, Wolf, plain old dead birds and, most likely, killed for the research. But going back to the study, I am always fascinated by the way that flora and fauna evolved in islands... so different from mainland.
