Rash on arm?

Postby AmishParrot » Sat Mar 07, 2015 9:33 pm

Hello! I've had Tyler (Catalina Macaw)for 3 months. A couple of months ago I thought I had contracted Ring Worm. After a couple weeks of treatment I realized that wasn't the case. For 2 weeks I made sure to put on a heavy sleaved jacket whenever handling Tyler. The rash went away. Again, I started handing him with out a cover and sure enough, I broke out again with a rash where he was perched on my arm. I haven't had any look Googling this? Anyone familar?
Thanks, Scott

Off hand I would say that your skin is sensitive to the abrasive quality of the birds feet.

Hmmm, no, I've never come across anybody getting a rush from a bird perching on their arm. Are you sure it's a rash and not little holes made by the bird's claws?

My skin is sensitive to scratches from claws. It gets red and slightly irritated, but it's just from the skin being slightly broken from the bird claws. This also happens with the giant walkingsticks I work with too. I don't think it's an allergy, really, just irritation.

Maybe that's what's going on with you? Maybe clip the bird's nails? Wear sleeves? Or just wash the skin after having the bird on your arms?
