Forum downtime soon (PLEASE READ)

Postby Wolf » Mon Apr 06, 2015 3:33 pm

Michael, just let me know that he has just installed a new switch and has to transfer the forum soon and you will have to google the new computer address when this happens. I will try to keep you updated on this so that hopefully you will know when to expect this to occur.

Let me clarify that. I will be changing ISPs and after the change is complete, the forum will be at least ten times faster. However, the IP address will change. Therefore your computer/device will not know how to reach the server for a period up to 72 hours until the cache expires and is reset. At that point it will automatically find the new IP and connect like before. This has nothing to do with google.

Clearing your cache and rebooting the computer may help to force it to find the forum sooner during this transition. Regardless, after a few days everything will return to normal even if you do nothing. The address http://TheParrotForum.com will not change. It's just the server IP thay the address rrfes to will be different and it may take some time for that address change to reach all corners of the internet.

If you can't get on during the changeover, try the reset, try accessing from a different computer (particularly one that had never been on before and cant know the old address), or just try again later. Wolf made it a good point to let everyone know about this in advance because once the transition happens there will be no way of informing people.

Not yet certain when this will occur but most likely next weekend. Thanks.

I sure am glad that Michael added to my post as I am not the most tech savvy person on the block.

I guess that I wasn't really thinking properly when I posted this topic here as it should ideally have gone in the Forum Rules, Announcements and collaborative Videos section. So just to make things easier in the future, if I have information from Michael that should be posted on the forum, look for it there. Sorry about the mistake.

Great to find out in advance! I hate it when I try to go in and it keeps on telling me it can't find the address - this way, I am prepared.

I am expecting to be making the switch tonight. There will be a few hours of absolute downtime and then beyond that, it will come back as soon as your computer is able to get an update of the newest ip address.

For any forum junkies out there that must get your fix, past the initial transfer downtime, you may be able to get in sooner than the address gets cleared up by going to http://100.12.14.18 but no guarantees that it will work properly when accessed via that method.
