I sooo agree with you with not being able to eat with a dog around the table.
My birds will at most just sit there and look at me, not a peep out of them. They won't go for anything that I might drop and will only take what I willingly give them. They might even just start playing with something else if they realize they won't get anything.

I own dogs and they are not even allowed in the kitchen when we're eating!
I agree with you both. A begging dog is very annoying however a quiet parrot is nice.

I've been around well behaved dogs who didn't come near the table; but those are rare it seems.

My parents have got a new grey a couple of weeks ago. They bring a T-perch next to their table and put the grey there and give it some of the food they are eating while it's perched there.

Duke isn't really interested in eating anything besides seeds. So this alleviates most of that problem because I don't eat what he's interested in and he runs away if I try to offer him anything! :P
