I think that all ex-breeders should go to sanctuaries and maybe the few that were pets but have since broken off the human dependence and 'reverted' to being just birds. But never pet birds that are still bonded to humans because it's terrible for them to be without a human of their own.

Some of the birds who are now part of bonded pairs were clearly pets before. They talk and tell you their names, etc. They want human interaction.

Some have lost their mates (a lot of birds died from the malnutrition). These birds seem to be looking to humans again.

Ohhhh, poor, poor things, how they must have suffered! I bet they were pets that were given up because of problems and ended up been exploited as breeders! Terrible, terrible thing to do to an animal!

Messy and difficult to feed right for 'normal' people...

Yes, that is, strangely enough, all pretty accurate. They owe us a ton of money, but at least we own the birds now.

Perrrrrfect!!!! I don't care how deranged this ass---- is he needs to loose his property and not only should 40 grand go to the rescue but all the rest of the money should be put into trust for the life time of medical problems that I'm sure will be rearing its ugly head for each and every bird that made it. You can't put a price on the emotional scaring. BW

I agree. But, you know what is the BEST lesson to be learned about the whole thing? The store he used to own, Fauna, was highly recommended to me as well as the owner -who is the one they are talking about. This is the most important lesson I learned doing rescue work full time for years: even when you think you are an excellent judge of character, there is always people who can fool you so, when it comes to rehoming animals, never take anybody's word for the kind of care they give their animals - ask a million questions over a period of time (people who lie often forget what they said] and NEVER, EVER rehome an animal without doing a thorough home inspection!

You also have to trust your gut. We had a couple pass every test and visit perfectly, but one of the committee had a bad feeling about them. We adopted the bird to them anyhow. We got the bird back in a matter of months. It could have been worse. The bird is safe and back and available to be adopted, but he didn't need that crap in his life.
