The few critters that I took in and was able to rehome are much happier where they are. I will only give them up if they go to better than I can give them.

We finally got title to all the birds that were seized back in September. I'll be able to share pictures of them and let you know what we have, soon.

Great! Let the adoptions begin! Have you heard from the vet that kept the Hawkheads?

The only Hawkshead I remember is with us. I think his working name is Pharaoh. He's not exactly friendly, and he is as quick as a cobra. He seems to be doing well. I don't think any of the birds that were taken by the vets directly from the breeding facility made it. She took only the sickest, so I guess that was to be expected.

Some of the rarer birds will be headed right to sanctuaries. It's about the only way we can be sure they won't end up in the hands of a breeder, again. I'm not yet sure who is going to sanctuaries and who will be available for adoption.

Some people think that rare birds have to be bred to save the species. Maybe, but that breeding needs to take place in their native areas, and be done by conservationists. Breeding rare birds in a barn in New England is not saving the species, at all.

Happy to hear this great news and I'm with you 100% about the only breeding should be done to reestablish a species in there native homeland. BW

The only people who use the excuse of breeding pet parrots to 'keep the species alive' are breeders trying to justify the unjustifiable or people who are not well-informed because pet parrots are nothing but the shadow of the wild ones... weak, sickly and mal-adjusted individuals, the poor things!

Our executive director is firmly anti-breeding. Those not suitable for being companion birds will go to sanctuaries. They won't go to breeders. They'll stay with us before that happens.

I think most can be adopted. Even most of the bonded pairs are friendly enough. And, apparently, every lory in the world is a sweet bird. Even when they bite it doesn't hurt.
