Necropsy is being done.

I thought they did DNA from eggshells? I thought that’s how they did it with babies.

All the other necropsies on the Lories we lost showed heart, liver, and kidney issues.

Yes, when birds live under stress for a long time, all the organs appear compromised - at least, that's what I have read and experienced myself.

They do DNA from eggshells but I don't know of a single bird breeder that does this [at least, I've never seen ads for babies that state it] besides, how would the breeder know which eggshell fragment corresponds to which chick?! The only way it would work is if there is only one single egg in the nest, if they are incubator birds [no longer done] OR if all the fragments come up showing the same gender.

Necropsy on OJ was the same as the rest of them. Nothing contagious.

Yes, people seem to want animals more during the good weather...

Actually, I’ve been told that relinquishments go up in the good weather. I think people are just more active, generally.

Yes, I am sure that is the case, too. I think it has to do with spring being kind of a 'renewal' or 'fresh leaf' season after not doing much during the winter so some people will get an animal and others will give it up.

Snowball has been at the rescue since before I started over three years ago. He got adopted yesterday. For the last 2 weeks, snowball has let me scratch his head. First time in three years I've been able to touch that bird.

Snowball is 26. He is open banded, so he may be wild-caught.

That leaves only Boucca, the wild-caught M2 who has been here longer than me. I think Boucca has been here for 8 years.

I think I've missed posting some adoptions and intakes.

In intake quarantine we currently have a hybrid macaw (Catalina or Harlequin, depending on who you ask), Princess; a Citron Cockatoo, Fluffy; a pineapple GCC, Bird; and a green budgie stray we named Farren (Farren is Olde English for "Wanderer.")

We have three more birds going home tomorrow.
