She is getting supplements. Milky something or other. Aloe juice or something like that. The pellets are special low fat stuff.

There is also something that is put on the sore on her foot.

The foster mom gave me a bunch of links to holistic treatments for birds inner condition. They have worked well on some birds. I think the aloe was one of these. I'd imagine they're reporting only the success stories in such a link.

My vet is Elisabeth Simone-Freilicher. She's an avian vet at Angell Memorial in Boston. I'd care for Tanya in the manner she suggested. I am assuming they her care will cost several thousand dollars per year. I know I am not the ideal person to adopt her, but unless Paj wants another bird I'm not sure there are any better options. Im not home 24/7, but I am fully disabled and don't really have a job. I do a little stuff here and there, but it's mostly radio and production stuff and done at night when good birds should be asleep.
The combination of being home 24/7 and having the money for the vet care is a rare thing, I think.

She must be getting milk thistle and aloe vera juice which are both very good for liver problems and, in a lesser way, kidneys. I can't take in a bird that will require that much work or money. I am only going to be taking in three new birds in the future: a female jenday or sun conure, a male lesser jardine and a male redbelly - and this is only because I don't want any of my birds not to have a companion of their own species. But, if you decide to take her in, I will gladly tell you what I know and what I would give her in terms of what supplements and specific fruits and such she can benefit from and, of course, I would put her on gloop immediately. I forgot to mention before that this 'eating non-stop' is one of the symptoms of very advanced liver disease... Did they tell you what her bile acid levels were?

We have that info, but I do not know it. I know they were, "very bad" but I don't know if they were low or high. The rescue's vet would send that to my vet, I guess.

I know I can count on you guys for advice. You've all been great.

We have a beautiful Jenday at the rescue. Nice bird, but noisy as hell. I don't know if he has been sexed.

I think it will be worthwhile to try to do a phone consult with my vet to have her outline what kind of treatment, tests, and expenses she might expect for Tanya. I think that will be money well spent. I know it will be at least 4 figures a year, but if it approaches 5 figures a year I'll have to look at doing some birdie fundraising.

Yes, your vet would need all the results so as to keep track of values. And, yes, I bet the bile acids were 'really bad'. Awwww, what a cute jenday! But, even if it was a female, Boston is too far away and there are jendays getting given up all over the place... same as sun conures, people fall in love with the colors but a few years later give them up because they become too nippy and too noisy. Poor things! And don't even get me started on the amount of GCCs, tiels, budgies and plets I now see on CL on a daily basis -sheesh, there were 4 (FOUR!) macaws on it yesterday!

Well, if you foster her, the rescue would have to pay for her medical bills... at least the biggest part of them.
