Has the rescue tried hydrotherapy for Tanya? I've seen it done with an African Grey that had two broken legs, and it apparently helped out really well. Maybe a similar exercise could help Tanya.

Nicole just told me that there has been a change in Tanya's droppings. Hopefully it's another sign of improvement.

Would you be kind enough to tell us what the poop looked like before and now, after the change? Poop is a very useful diagnostic tool and it's always good to share this type of information with people who might not have experience...

"In the last few days I noticed a difference in her poop! A good difference. Her poop has gone from mushy blobs of grossness to shapely droppings. The feces part is still a little mushy but is has the form that bird poop should have. It has the 3 separate components and the right shape. I don’t know whether to contribute it to the supplements, the new pellet or if it is part of her regular progression and the other factors didn’t play into it. Either way I am excited."

Ahhhh, yes, the better diet is what is doing it but, although the feces and the urates are good (nice shape, color, quantity), there is almost no urine and that's a concern she needs to address because parrots with liver damage due to high protein also suffer from high uric acid and they need A LOT of hydration to cleanse it out of the kidneys.

I don't know how much has been absorbed into that fleece cover. She has a memory foam pillow wrapped in plastic and then in fleece. She spends a lot of time on this so it has to be soft.

Yes, but even when it's absorbed and dried up, there is always a faint ring left where the 'puddle' of urine was because although it's always said that birds urine has no color, it actually does -just a tiny bit but enough to leave the ring. In any case, it's easy to figure out, all she has to do is put a paper towel on top of a plastic placed on top of the fleece and check several times a day.

Looks like there is a big urine ring around all 5 droppings, though. One ring around all of them instead of rings around each one.

Snowball likes to get out and terrorize the place. She often flies around, but this time she ran around.

This is Fred. He is the only white bird down there who seems to like me.

I'm not sure Bucca hates me. He is an old, wild-caught, M2, who actually survived a house fire. He has been at the rescue a long time. He is VERY loud, but he does quiet down with attention. He's hard to ignore when he's screaming, and he knows it.

Sometimes I think he'd be better off in a sanctuary, but there are a few people who he absolutely loves. If he finds one of those people who can actually handle him and can take him, I think he would have a happy life as a pet. One of our volunteers can handle him like he's a little baby, and there have been people interested in adopting him that have made great strides with him. It takes coming in a lot. You'd really want to be sure it was going to work out before you took him home. He is so big, so loud, and so strong. You'd want to be friends before taking him home.
