Yes, there is quite a difference in size between subspecies but there can also be a big difference in size between birds of the same species - it depends on how healthy the parents were and how well the baby was fed - just like any other animal...

Yes, poor baby is plucked and I bet she is very needy, too! Ekkies are real hard to keep healthy and happy. If there is one species that should not be bred for human pets is ekkies.

A bunch of new birds in quarantine at the rescue, today. A blue and gold named Bridge and a Severe named Phoenix. A Blue Front, and a DYH. All 4 are males, I think.

Also a female parrotlet named Midge.

These birds came in with extensive write ups on their vocabularies and behaviors. I'll try to get pictures of them and sort out the name of the amazons. I think one is Pepe and one is Paco.

Extensive write ups is what we would do if we had to give our babies up. They must have been dearly loved by someone.

One was surrendered by someone crying her heart out. I felt so bad.

Yes, sometimes, loving them to pieces is simply not enough... Poor lady and poor bird, now they are both suffering.

I also worked with MacKenzie today. She is a Peachfront Conure who has been abused in the past. She is a lot less shy now, and she will take treats out of my hand. She would relax with my hands in the cage, but she wouldn't come out today, either. At least she is moving in the right direction. She seems to be getting better.

MacKenzie was just adopted. She'll be living just up the street. She was adopted by a friend of mine.

Another picture of MacKenzie. I just posted the link, because I can't get it to resize.

Awww, she is beautiful! So much prettier than my poor Pablo! He is a peachfronted, too, but between his liver problems and his handicap, he looks like crap compared to her...

I'm glad she found a good home. She came to the rescue from an abusive situation.
