The beak is the wrong color for a yellow shouldered. I don't know much about breeding or genetics, so I don't know what's dominant and what's recessive, but there ar not many Amazon breeds with black beaks.

I have looked at every description and picture on my Encyclopedia of Amazon Parrots and cannot find any that fits so I would say he is a hybrid and, if I had to make a guess, I would say he is either a Tres Marias or a Double Yellow Headed/Blue Front mix because, although there are other species with black beaks, it seems to me his face has the 'look' of the BFA. He is a gorgeous bird regardless of what he is...

I'm glad I came in today. I saw a bonded pair, sun conure and budgie. It's the cutest thing ever.

Awww, two 'uneven' pairs - but animals are so great that way, they really do not care about those things.

I have had my green winged macaw for about 17 years now my first bird. Here the last few days he has been paying special attintion to Lilly and now he follows her around like a lap dog , regurgitating everywhere he goes with her.Now I know what's going on , but Lilly is a mollucan and Huey has never gotten carried away like this. I would love it if they bonded but don't want any hanky panky to much estrogen in this house already , don't need Huey stiring up the pot. He's also going into places he's never ventured before. Lilly likes to play in the bath tub and her bath toys are in there but now Huey has invaded that space too. Lilly only weighs 780 grams , and Huey is twice that size and never caged. Any suggestions on how to discourage this without putting him in jail? Bird woman P.S. Hes approx. 25ish

Allow me to make things worse, in an attempt to improve things. I hate this part, but you do need to be aware that macaws have a bad reaction to dust birds such as cockatoos, cockatiels and African greys, that predisposes them to respiratory infections. So actually you really need to find a way to keep him from bonding with her at all. While he does need companionship and by that I mean with other birds and not just humans he needs to be separated from your dust birds for his own well being. I do not know enough about your set up at the moment to know what to suggests as a way to do this, only trying to let you know about this. Perhaps he can continue being around them outside, but I would definitely avoid it inside the home, if at all possible.

Hmmm, well, I will have to disagree with you, Wolf. Mind you, it's not that I don't understand where you are coming from on the dust issue but I am sure that, with six powder birds, Bird woman already has that under control in the form of air purifiers and humidifiers in her birdroom -plus, now that we are able to open the windows, the issue becomes much less of a problem. It's just that I don't agree with creating any unnecessary stress to them and separating Huey from Lilly Bell (I used to have a white cat with the same exact name! :D only I spelled it Belle, as in beautiful) seems a bit unfair to him. I mean, he is 25 years old and has never shown any desire to court another bird and, when he does it for the first time in his life, it's recommended that he is kept away from her? Poor boy is like the 40 year old virgin! In my personal experience, males are not aggressive at all with the females unless they are overly hormonal (which I hope it's not the case here) or budgies (which tend to be the biggest bullies) and hens are very much aware of their 'power of decision' when it comes to accepting or not courtship so, as long as she is not showing signs of any stress or anxiety, I would just let him do his thing. It will be OK in another couple of months anyway...

It is georgious when this happens. At the bird park where I volunteer a sunconure (i am guessing female?) has fallen in love with a ringneck male. So cute they both are, the conure used to be a pet but the ring neck is scared of humans.
And then we have a sun conure who is mated with a red collared lorikeet.
I love that they dont care, they are just happy to be happy and how they are happy is irrevelant :D

I think most conures are very open birds when it comes to finding mates.
And anthough she be little, she is fierce ~Shakespeare
