Gaguan has never layed an egg and she is 18. It is nice they have better methods, for sexing and do it yourself kits too. One person I talked to was sure his cockatiel was a male, even though we all thought he had a female there. One day when they were cleaning on top of their cupboards they found a ton of cockatiel eggs...lol

A couple of the uneven pairs

Both pairs are bonded. They huddle together if they get scared; they feed each other, too.

All of them speak Spanglish. Mami speaks mostly Spanish with a little English she learned from me but the others speak mostly English with some Spanish mixed in.

And yes, I also think that everybody should know the gender of their bird. It makes a difference not only in the care but also in how you react to behaviors.

Seagoatdeb, sometimes sexing from the chest green V is difficult if you don't have another bird to compare it to but look at the tail undercoverts of the rescued Senegal, if you see green rectrices with a V of green feathers that 'continue' from the abdomen to about 3/4 of the length of the tail, you have a female. If this V is yellow (same as the abdomen), you have a male.

We know the rescue is female from her behavior, and it is even more apparent right now with it being the hormonal season.

Casey, this Grey who loved me in quarantine, and who loved me when he first got to the floor, has been mad at me for a week.

I took him out last Wednesday. He got startled by something and "flew" off my arm. He landed very awkwardly on the carpet and broke the very tip of his beak. It bled a tiny bit, but we took care of it and put him back into his cage to settle down. He seemed scared the rest of the day. He settled down on Thursday and was okay with everyone, but when he saw me on Friday,me was scared of me again. When I saw him yesterday, he would just freeze where he was. He wouldn't even take an almond from me.

Nicholas, our TAG who has been at the rescue almost a year, used to love me, but I was the one who moved him from his old cage into a bigger cage, and he is just now starting to forgive me.

Greys have such long memories.

YES, THEY DO!!! The broken beak tip happened to me once (it was Sweetpea and about 8 or 9 years ago). Please make sure the bird gets soft food because it hurts them if they need to use to break something hard.

My grays are INCREDIBLY affectionate right now - Pookey not so much because she has been upset over Freddy (she doesn't like or trust him) but Sophie has been as Velcro and loving as a GCC! (she is preparing for a second clutch, I think, because she has been hiding in her 'nest')

Wellllllllllllllll...

I *GUESS* my story belongs here.

My wonderful grandmother was NOT a bird person. She was a Southern belle who dealt in loveliness and gentility. Reality... not so much.

She always told people her grand-daughter had a Patagonian CONDOR, not CONURE. She would say "It loves her just like a puppy!" People envisioned the gigantic condor and cringed as she would tell how the bird perched on my shoulder, gave kisses, and bathed in the sink!!!!! Over the decades, I had 4 well-meaning and responsible animal lovers ask Grandmother for my phone number or e-mail, then contacting me about the ethics and legality of having such a pet, and offering "rescue alternatives" for my darling. A clarification quickly reassured them.

True story.

When Myrtle started flying we had an incident where I scared her really bad. It was 10 days before she would land on my shoulder and speak to me.

I absolutely cannot fathom.

The ones who called were so relieved to find a reasonably sane person, and a contented Conure on the other end of the line!
