Re: Parrot Rescue

I'm thinking of adopting a TAG. He is super shy and has been at the rescue for a year as of today. I think he needs to get a home to come out of his shell. He's not skittish, just reserved. He gets over-looked as potential adopters bond to birds who are quicker to warm up to people. For a while he was the only grey at the rescue. I thought that would improve his chances, but now we have 3 CAGs, in addition to him. When I look at other birds at the rescue, I can't even think of taking another one home while this little guy is still there after a year.

It would definitely be a kindness to him... question is, how will Ocean take it.

Not really sure. She has been worse with me, lately, but better with everyone else.

I think this bird is a male, which may help. He is also not super needy.

There are a few other birds who have been at the rescue longer, but they're Macaws, cockatoos, and the DYH who tried to take my arm off.

Nicholas just sits there, quiet and adorable, with no real "issues" waiting for someone to take him home. He is also Tanya's "brother," in that they came from the same owner. I always used to tell him, and Shane, the Greenwing, that Tanya said, "Hello.

Please make sure he is 100% healthy before you take him. It would be real hard for you to have to deal with another incurable situation...

I think he is healthy. He has been there a year at this point. He needs a vet visit whether I take him home, or not.

I made a bunch of progress with him. He was all happy to see me yesterday. But then he saw me use a tape measure and got scared. For the rest of the day he'd growl at me when I came near the cage.

Yes, African grays don't like new things and they are the worst when it comes to 'forgiving' us for mistakes that scare them. Pookey got scared of Freddy and, although it's been months now, she still hasn't forgotten...

We have a new, 18 month old CAG in quarrentine.she still has her first tail feathers.
She is so scared. I gave her a pistachio. She opened it, and the sound of the shell hitting the floor spooked her.

I need to not fall in love with her. I'm far too old to even think about a 1-year-old grey.

Awww, poor little thing! Imagine that - a bird getting startled by the noise of a nutshell falling... Tsk, tsk, tsk, I wonder how she was kept to become so insecure. Good luck not falling in love with her - I wouldn't even try as I know it would be a lost cause in my case
