It's probably like Stadia, Aquaria, etc. you can use the Latin plural, or add an "s/es," as long as you're consistent.

I've never run across a "cuddly" macaw, like Max. She is almost cockatoo-like. The difference is, Max seems to like everyone.

Macaws are, actually, pretty laid-back birds and they do imprint very deeply to humans but they are not usually cuddly-cuddly so the poor thing must have had a dearth of affection for a long time...

Maybe. I don't remember her story. I'm at the rescue a few days a week, where most volunteers are only there one day a week, so she is probably getting used to me.
She tends to squawk loudly and lead with her beak when approached, so she probably has scared people off for a long time. Like so many greenwings, she does better when stepping up from the rear. She steps back onto my arm easily and quietly that way. And everyone knows that she is sweet now. That initial bluff doesn't scare anyone off, anymore.

My neighbor had a Macaw that he kept outside in the summer. I would call to him when I went to the mailbox. One day he was screaming and the man was hosing down his cage. I thought the bird was in the cage by the way it was screaming. Being the person I am I went over to them to stop him if that was what was going on. Pepper was not in the cage. He was on the front porch trying to get in the door.
I had no knowledge of any parrots back then but knew when something was scared. I sat on the steps to the porch and this big Macaw came running to me and got on my arm. He wanted cuddled to reassure him that he was safe.
That was a strange encounter. I did not know that parrots got that big and here I was with this heavy bird coming to me for help.

Amazing, Liz.
I forget if I told you this story, butt...
When I walked into the bird store, the 3-month-old Rickeybird started to screech... ran/flapped to me, climbed me life a tree and rolled over onto his back in my arms. That was our beginning. Later, I traced the breeder by band. She and I were friendly for a while, exchanged photos. We could almost have been twins. Vey tall, long/big red hair and too much eye makeup *1984!). Our voices were very similar.
Can you imagine how that poor little guy felt when I walked in?? Almost makes me cry to re-live it!

Yes, they have long memories and, obviously, the breeder must have been good to him. And wasn't it incredibly fortuitous that you, resembling his breeder so closely, walked into the store while he was still there?! Talk about serendipity...

It *IS* amazing...
The breeder said there were 3 chicks, her very first clutch from two wild-caught birds, and it was so hard for her to give them up that she never did it again. Just kept the pair.
When the Rb spotted me and flapped/climbed his way to my arms, the whole store stared as if to say "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT????"
500 bucks was his price... a lot of money to a student, in 1984, but... I charged it, and then scrambled the money to make payments! The cage and food cost another 150 or so. The cage was delivered the next day, so I had to sit up with him all night as he slept in my lap.
CRAAAAAAAAZY!!!!!!!!!!!

Nadia just went home! I'll miss her, but she is going to a home with another 4-year-old gray, and a young woman who works from home. It's a great situation for Nadia!

Great news!!!!

By the way, do you usually leave bands on? My avian vet took the Rickeybird's off right away. Sometimes I wish it had stayed on... proof of bird's origin/domesticity/legality...

We don't take them off unless there is an issue with them. Some states require a band for transfer, and whereas we transfer to 5 states, maybe 6, they stay on if they have them. I know our vet removed one recently, but I don't know why.

Both my own birds had their bands removed on their first vet visit. Nick's was an import band, and Oceans was a closed band. The vet just made the numbers part of their medical records. Ocean's band was too big, as she is a very petite GCC, and Nick's open band looked like someone had tried to remove it sometime in the past. She completed the job.
