Nadia just went home! I'll miss her, but she is going to a home with another 4-year-old gray, and a young woman who works from home. It's a great situation for Nadia!

Awwww, I am SOOOOOO happy for her!!! I hope they keep her cage-free so she can let her feathers grow again...

This is Tango. He steps up for me, but that's about it. He's a good bird.

Tango is going home tomorrow. He is quite the character and is the bird right by the front door who greets everyone.
I haven't worked with tango much because the guy is going to be adopting him works on the same day as I do. We all kind of left Tango for Brian hoping hoping it would help Tango see Brian as his person.

I saw a picture of Tango the other day. He no longer barbers his feathers. He is looking great.

Oh, that's great, John!!! A lot of them never stop plucking completely but they all get better with good husbandry and love!

I wish I could find the picture that they sent us, but I can't. He has stopped barbering, and it looked like all the feathers were coming back except in one tiny spot. It's been just about a year since he left the rescue.

Yes, it takes them a long time to start the process of stopping the plucking but, once they do and even though it's always 2 steps forward, 1 back, 2 forward, 2 back, 2 forward, 1 back, etc. you can actually see the progress. Of all the pluckers I've had, only one stopped completely and regained her entire plumage, the others all kept one spot that they 'worked on' every now and then.

Casey, a goffins cockatoo got adopted. He was adopted by one of or volunteers. They absolutely LOVE each other. She has been waiting almost a year to be able to take him. So glad to see another cockatoo going home. So glad Casey won't bite me anymore!

This may be neither here nor there (I love that expression), but...
Once, when the Rbird was first getting his big-boy hormones, he was just acting like a Tazmanian devil... biting me and flapping and screaming. He was still clipped at that time (about 3 years old) so I was able to wrestle him back into his cage. I went to the door of his room and looked back at him. He was literally shaking with rage, beak open, breathless. Suddenly he reached down to his breast and ripped out a beak full of feathers, which flew up and around his head. I was shocked and clueless and after a few moments' thought , decided not to reward it. Towards bedtime, he had calmed down and we said goodnight. A tiny bare spot was visible, but soon grew back. I've always wondered what that was all about...

I guess that I am blessed. Mine seem to get cuddly and want attention when hormonal.

Why did she have to wait an entire year? Also, it seems that volunteers end up adopting a goodly number of the birds there, doesn't it? Not that I am criticizing or anything like that, mind you! I think it's fabulous for the birds because they not only already know their new human but the humans already know all the quirks of the birds!
