We have had a bunch. One is a 27-year-old Mealy. He is funny, and lazy, and I would have adopted him had he not found a home when he did. He was supposedly a biter. I don't think he ever bit anyone while at the rescue. I don't think he ever even showed signs of biting.
Another is a female eclectus. Again, she was relinquished as a biter. She is the sweetest bird. She used to ride around in the hood of my sweatshirt while I was taking care of other cages. Don't tell anyone. No bird larger than a conure is supposed to be on a shoulder. She was so sweet, I was never worried.
Of course I was warned about other birds being biters. I thought it was an over reaction since I had found the bird to be sweet, and just a bit hand shy. It wasn't long before she flew out of her cage and bit my arm in a dozen places. She got such big pieces of my arm that she didn't tear much flesh, she just left large welts and bruises. I sat on the floor with her for a while; she strutted back and forth, and eventually let me scratch her head. I thought we were cool, so I tried to get her to step up. She sank the tip of her beak about a half inch Into the back of my hand. Well, at least I had her, or she had me, and I got her back into her cage. I'm still wary of all DYH, and that was over a year ago. So yeah, sometimes the "biters" ARE biters!
