He is super sweet. He came in with the report the he "bites a lot." And being a U2, you always have that in the back of your mind. You don't want to get bitten by any cockatoo, as they tend to lacerate worse than other birds, but especially not the big ones. The more I work with him, though, the more I think the "biting" issue was environmental.

I had to towel him yesterday, and even after that, he was sweet, and didn't hold a grudge. He even let me pick him up like a chicken later in the day. He's a great bird.

Soooo many birds are labeled 'aggressive' when, in reality, they are just completely misunderstood and sweet souls...

We have had a bunch. One is a 27-year-old Mealy. He is funny, and lazy, and I would have adopted him had he not found a home when he did. He was supposedly a biter. I don't think he ever bit anyone while at the rescue. I don't think he ever even showed signs of biting.

Another is a female eclectus. Again, she was relinquished as a biter. She is the sweetest bird. She used to ride around in the hood of my sweatshirt while I was taking care of other cages. Don't tell anyone. No bird larger than a conure is supposed to be on a shoulder. She was so sweet, I was never worried.

Of course I was warned about other birds being biters. I thought it was an over reaction since I had found the bird to be sweet, and just a bit hand shy. It wasn't long before she flew out of her cage and bit my arm in a dozen places. She got such big pieces of my arm that she didn't tear much flesh, she just left large welts and bruises. I sat on the floor with her for a while; she strutted back and forth, and eventually let me scratch her head. I thought we were cool, so I tried to get her to step up. She sank the tip of her beak about a half inch Into the back of my hand. Well, at least I had her, or she had me, and I got her back into her cage. I'm still wary of all DYH, and that was over a year ago. So yeah, sometimes the "biters" ARE biters!

Oh, yes, no doubt about that (and I have the scars to prove it!), some are mean, mean, mean - not through any fault of their own but that doesn't change the fact that they are. But not ALL of them are... I am always VERY careful with a new bird and try very hard not to give them a chance to bite me but I reserve judgement on whether they are aggressive or not.

On the scene at a hoarding situation in CT. Hundreds of birds. Some stunning birds..golden conures, cape parrots, stunning parakeets, birds I have never seen before. It's heartbreaking. Mostly pairs. All breeders. I e been up since 5 am. We are going to cart these birds back to the rescue, I think, we have trucks coming. This is distressing.

Vassar parrots... odd crested things, galahs, Moluccan, hawks head parrots, stuff even the vets can't identify.
