Still here, and the building started to fill up with smoke. All the birds are out side. Working on transport.

A pair of Major Mitchells. I think I thought they were Rose breasted when I looked quickly. Lots of Lorne's and lorikeets. Lots of birds I can't identify.

Navre, you have a heart of gold. Momma used to tell me that good deeds were rewarded in heaven with a gem put in your crown. Your crown will be to heavy to wear.

While at a pet store I found a Macaw that loved to have his beak stroked. We just met but had an agreement to lovbe each other. About that time a Cockatoo screamed and I got bit. He did not break skin but smashed my finger hard enough to make the blood come out the side. Every one in the pet shop freaked out. It was all I could do to keep the Macaw calm while everyone is running in circles.

The worst bite I ever got was from a Cockatiel named Rosie. I have seen so many emotions in the little ones but never thought they were mean. She would run to me just to bite the skin between my finger and thumb. I still don't accept that she was mean. I must have missed something that she was trying to tell me. That part of the hand was hard to keep a band aid on.

Was there a fire, John? You mentioned smoke.... Is your rescue networking with other ones? Because I would imagine they don't have room for hundreds of birds...

This is the consequence of not having tougher laws on animal ownership and you can put the blame for these situations squarely on PIJAC's shoulders! Bird breeders should registered, certified and inspected - and there should be a quota for the number of birds produced as well as a paper trail for each bird sold.

I got home at about 4 am. I threw out my shoes and drove home barefoot. I left my clothes outside. I thought driving home naked was pushing my luck.

There was so much debris, and so many seed hulls, that just after we got the last birds out, the electric heaters kicked on (we had all the doors open) and the building g started to fill up with smoke. Luckily, the volunteer fire department (this is a very small town in far western CT) was on scene to help with the birds, otherwise the whole building would have gone up. Not that it would have been any loss. It will be condemned as soon as it is looked at by the condemning guy. Burning bird seed smells like burnt popcorn if anyone was wondering.

If you ever want to buy from a breeder, I'll share the details I'm sparing you now.

There was one Cape Parrot who seemed like he had been a pet. He was a single, and seemed interested in interaction. He was in an enclosure with no water. We had to cut the enclosure open because the latches were corroded shut. I don't know how he is alive. My new definition of happy is watching him drink after we gave him water.

I think you should share them in a posting of its own because people need to be aware of the terrible situations these breeders create! Because it's not only the poor breeding birds that suffer so terribly for years and years until they just die but also that the babies couldn't possibly be healthy or well-adjusted when they are born of sick parents and kept in filth!

Annnnnd I hate to do this, but we are going to need money. The town has pledged their support, but as of last night, the birds belong to us. The vet bills, need for new cages, Need for different food to feed birds like lorries, turacaos, and other things we haven't had in a while, all of this will bankrupt us if we don't get more support.

This guy had breeding pairs of birds like Goldn Conures, and Major Mitchells. There were dozens of big, broken down, stainless steel cages outside. This in an operation that had big money, at some point.

I think we have 4 golden conures and 2 major Mitchell's.

When I told was he vet on scene that there were golden conures inside, she was convinced that I had mis-identified the bids. "Can't be," she said. She was stunned. They sure are noisy!
