I had to cut the cages open. You could access the nest boxes, and you could open tiny food dish slots, but the cage doors were corroded shut.

How long do you figure it takes a stainless steel dog leash clip to corrode to the point where it cannot be opened by a former big-City firefighter with pliers? Inside? I'd say it is not exaggeration to say that it had been years and years since those cages had been opened. We had to cut the cages open with wire cutters.

I'm actually getting more upset now, thinking about it. That's how it always goes for me. I never get upset during an incident.

It wasn't as much as I wish, but I donated, and I'll also donate money from any paintings I sell. So heartbreaking. Hugs and thanks.

My husband is coming home tonight and I will ask him to donate for us. I wish I was closer... I used to be great at what I call 'shaking the can' (fundraising at the doors of stores) and I could help with the poor animals... I will also post something on my FB page with the link for the donations.

Of course he had golden conures and head hawks, they are super expensive, damn his soul! I read that he had a petstore where he sold the babies, is that right?

I guess he used to have a pet store in Manhattan. I'm trying to ignore the criminal aspect of the case, as none of that will help us care for the birds. I'm choosing to believe that he was lost and misguided, rather than uncaring or evil. It honestly makes it easier to deal with.

The good news is that today, the Cape Parrot escaped her cage because she is brilliant, and was strong enough to fly around the room a bunch of times, and land well, etc. It was an encouraging sign, that a big, heavy bird like that was still strong enough to fly and fly well.

Other birds feel weak. I moved a pair of greencheeks today. As we get/find/construct better cages, we are able to move some birds to better options. They felt weak in my hands, bit weakly, etc. They look healthy, and are eating, but they felt wrong. They felt too fragile.

So far, every bird who made it back to Warwick alive, is still alive. A better look in better light reveals that the Mealy is actually a yellow nape, the Hanns Macaws are Yellow collared Macaws. I think the mysterious black birds are brown Lories. Still, many are mysteries to me.

Today I drove to a bird store in NH. I bought all their rope perches, and they donated 10 bins of nutriberries, lots and lots of lory food, and a bunch of large bird food. Lots of individuals and organizations are sending help. It's been the weekend. I expect packages to be arriving starting tomorrow.

There are a lot of good stories coming out of this.

Thanks Paj. I appreciate it. I guess the are a couple of vets and a bunch of techs due there tomorrow. We turned the aviary into a MASH unit. There is no room inside.

The Hawkshead may have gone straight to the vet. I didn't see him today, but I was mostly working outside, and yesterday I was on the "clean" side.

We have a pair of Major Mitchell Macaws. They're beautiful, and people talk like they are very expensive.

I wish I could post pictures. Some of the budgies are stunning. It's an open, criminal case, and the birds are evidence, so I'm probably not supposed to post pictures.
