If this is an on going criminal investigation is there a chance he is going to get the birds back or even some of them? I would pray that the wonderful efforts from all of you are not in vain. This is a horrific situation . Has the rescue thought about a program like mickaboo and sought out maybe temporary fostering in the community if your out of room for some of these birds so the facility is not so overwhelmed ? If this man does have a pet store I hope with this situation being publicized the community will not patronize him and put him out of buisness!!! Someone needs to make sure the news media keeps this front and center . B.W. P.S. Your to nice about the misguided part I prefer anymore to just call it like it is ( animal cruelity ) plain and simple.

Could be, but we can't worry about it. We keep the birds safe, Control what we can control, and not worry about the rest.

He did voluntarily surrender the birds, but a judge can order anything.

The store, I guess, was Fauna in Manhattan. It is closed.

I'm glad it's closed that makes me feel better. I , sometimes get so full of rage over things like this it just eats me up. We had a similar situation happen here not to long ago. It's all to common. I will be making a donation today , how is the medical part of things going , I know all to well how costly that is , especially to do it right. B.W.

The sickest birds were taken by a vet in CT directly from us while still at the facility.
All the birds who made it to RI are still alive and looking okay. Many need nail trims badly. That is being done today. Vets and techs are coming today to start work on these birds.

The birds love love love having clean water. It's pure joy for them.

I can not thank you enough for being so soft hearted with the little refugees. I miss volunteering at the zoo but don't have time to find a shelter here.

OMG! FAUNA!!!! I know that store! Not that I ever been there but Nick, the guy who adopted Leo GCC and Marco Timbrado from me and who comes periodically to get gloop, used to go there and he even recommended it as a good store! That goes to show that, just because a guy looks kind, talks a good schpeel and keeps a good store, it doesn't mean the birds in it did not come from awful conditions!

If he relinquished the birds on his own, the judge will not send them back to him. The only problem, I think, is that the birds cannot be adopted out until the case is closed.

There is no way the birds have been kept in those conditions for long, because they wouldn't be alive. Something changed.

I just read all the old posts in this thread. It makes for amazing reading. Liz, you said something wayyy back that I wanted to thank you for. You said, about how heartbreaking it can be to see birds in rescues, but that really, they are the lucky ones, no longer abused, in the dark, hungry, alone. That's very strengthening, I'm sure, for rescuers.

Identified another strange one. We have a male, hooded parrot. Beautiful little thing.
