While you are correct, it is for whoever likes it. In the US when choosing colors for babies blue is very often said to be a male color. I am sure that it is a marketing ploy, but it has its origins in some folklore of some type.
I am sorry if you are having a bad day, hope it improves for you.
I'm not having a particularly bad day, I was trying to make a joke

...While also keeping it serious, because, let's face it, there are no such things as gendered colors. But I of course didn't mean to sound harsh, I was actually being pretty light-hearted about it.

I'm aware that blue is "traditionally" a "boys'" color.
And of course it's not only in the US, it is widely recognized - in all or most of the Western world, I believe. You're right that it probably started as a marketing ploy, but it does not originate in any sort of folklore. If you're interested, you can read some history on the subject
here, I've found it's more interesting than it at first seems.
I'm of the opinion (is it even an opinion? it should be a fact!) that even though it is still popularly accepted that pink is for girls and blue is for boys, that is total and utter bullcrap and should be dismissed. Who cares about gender anyway? Or colors? I prefer flower print patterns!

And would very much like to dress any potential future children or (more likely) nieces and nephews as Senegal parrots - in green and orange.
Anyway, sorry, this is WAY off topic! Forgive me for borrowing your thread for this, ParrotsForLife, I only meant to make a quick joke/comment.
